『サクリファイス』

ホラー小説かと思うこの題名。実は自転車レースの話です。

友人の娘さん（小学校四年生）に勧めてもらったもの。
中学受験に向けて塾に通っている彼女。本格的な勉強が始まる前にたくさん本を読みなさい、と国語の先生が勧めてくれたとか。
偶然いつも通っている小さな図書館にあったので借りてみました。

今まで全く知らなかった自転車レースの世界。
そのルールやこの競技を取り巻く国内・国外の事情、レースの見どころなどもストーリーの中にうまく盛り込まれていて、あっという間に引き込まれてしまいました。

続編が何冊かあるので借りてみようと思います。

それにしても四年生でこんなのを読むのかぁ、、、。
子供たちにも本好きになってもらいたいと思うけれど、それは親が強要するものでもないかな、と思っています。
私ののめり込みっぷりを見て、むしろ嫌いになってしまったらどうしよう、、、

Sacrifice

From the title, you'd think it's some kind of horror book, but no, it's a story about a bike race.
It was recommended by my friend's daughter who is in the fourth grade.

The rules of the game, different situations surrounding the game in Japan and overseas, the highlights of watching the race, were all naturally blended into the story.  It caught my interest right away.

I want my kids to be book lovers too, but that's not something a parent can force upon their children.  I hope they will enjoy getting wrapped up in another place and time they have never been to, feeling all the emotion with the characters.
