The Staples Dress

初めて海外の個人デザイナーのパターンを使ってみました。
April RhodesのThe Staples Dress。
日本のものと同じようにPDFでダウンロードし、A4サイズのものを切り貼りするタイプ。
オールカラーの説明は17ページ。とても丁寧で細かく、"Get Ready!" "Let's Go"などというフレンドリーな表現が出てきてまるでデザイナー本人が話しているような雰囲気でした。

とても人気のパターンのようで、これ一つで専用のFlickrページがあるくらい。
同じパターンの生地違い、アレンジ違いをまとめて見ることができるので創造欲をかき立てられます。

デザインは写真の通り、とてもシンプル。
ポケットとウェイスト部分のシャーリングも省いてしまったのであっという間に完成しました。
それでも肩と脇の部分は折り伏せ縫い、袖口はバイアス処理、と丁寧な仕様になっています。
裾は生地が足りなかったので本当は三つ折りなのですが、ここもバイアス処理にしました。

生地はHARUさんのもの。
薄地だけれど透け感がないので涼しく軽い着心地。

そういえばワンピースを作ったのはこれが初めて。

My First Dress

Kollabora, Burda's project showcase, and many talented bloggers have opened me up to the world of  indies designers and the sewing community overseas.

It took me a lot of time to decide on my first pattern, and I finally chose The Staples Dress by April Rhodes.  The Flickr group was very inspiring, and awed me with the imagination of each creator.

The pattern is simple, which makes it so versatile and very well thought out with the French seams and calculated silhouette. 

I had to use bias tape for the hem because I did not have enough yardage.  But it came out nicely with that touch of pink, not that I would want many people to see it.

I used cotton lawn without any sheerness, giving the dress a light and breezy feeling.  The floral design looks like it's painted with watercolor, with the naming "Cassis Navy".

I left out the pockets and shirring which made it even more quick to make.  The 17 page full color instruction was easy to follow and I learned some new terms in English!

Come to think of it, this is my first handmade dress.
